Caution!! Italian Glass Blowers at Work

Glass blowing on the island of Murano near Venice, Italy dates from around 600 AD. Legend has it that all the glass blowers were moved to the island of Murano from Venice after a disasterous fire in Venice. However, the real reason to move them was to prevent the secrets of making glass from the rest of the world. Leaving the island was considered treason. Today descendants of these early glass blowers still practice this art in Murano and have created the wonderful items we have here.

Click on the topics to get a better understanding of how our Venetian glass products are made. Remember it's all handmade or mouthblown and no two pieces can ever be exactly alike. Puntie marks found on all handworked glass is how the piece is attached to the tool used to gather the glass and to reheat the piece. They are normal, actually they are essential.
